“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week’s pre-publication “can’t-wait-to-read” selection is:

Towering

Towering

At first, I merely saw his face, his hands on the window ledge. Then, his whole body as he swung himself through the window. Only I could not see what he swung on.
Until, one day, I told my dream self to look down. And it was then that I saw. He had climbed on a rope. I knew without asking that the rope had been one of my own tying.

Rachel is trapped in a tower, held hostage by a woman she’s always called Mama. Her golden hair is growing rapidly, and to pass the time, she watches the snow fall and sings songs from her childhood, hoping someone, anyone, will hear her.

Wyatt needs time to reflect or, better yet, forget about what happened to his best friend, Tyler. That’s why he’s been shipped off to the Adirondacks in the dead of winter to live with the oldest lady in town. Either that, or no one he knows ever wants to see him again.

Dani disappeared seventeen years ago without a trace, but she left behind a journal that’s never been read, not even by her overbearing mother…until now.

A #1 New York Times bestselling author, Alex Flinn knows her fairy tales, and Towering is her most mind-bending interpretation yet. Dark and mysterious, this reimagining of Rapunzel will have readers on the edge of their seats wondering where Alex will take them next!

Why: The first thing that brought this book to my attention was the cover. Something about it just screams for your attention. Next, it was the fact that it was by Alyson Noel. Touched (Touched, #1)

Touched (Touched #1)

by Corrine Jackson

Remy O’Malley has the power to heal people with her touch, but her ability comes at a steep cost because every illness or injury she heals becomes her own.
Expected publication: December 2012 by Kensington Teen
Why: The cover! Absolutely gorgeous! And then the description. Aaaaah! It sounds so great even though its only 3 lines. I think that is what sets apart some authors from the rest. They have the ability to hook you even before you’ve read their book. Other than that, i would just like to add that this is the German cover. Can you imagine if this is what the German cover looks like, makes you wonder what the others will look like.

Whoever is controlling the Dead army has taken her brother as well. If Eleanor is going to find him, she’ll have to venture into the lab of the notorious Spirit-Hunters, who protect the city from supernatural forces. The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden, #1)

The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden #1)

by Julie Kagawa

You will kill. The only question is when.

In the dark days since the insidious Red Lung virus decimated the human population, vampires have risen to rule the crumbling cities and suburbs. Uncontested Princes hold sway over diminished ranks of humans: their “pets.” In exchange for their labor, loyalty and of course, their blood, these pets are registered, given food and shelter, permitted to survive.

Unregistered humans cling to fringes, scavenging for survival. Allison Sekemoto and her fellow Unregistereds are hunted, not only by vampires, but by rabids, the unholy result of Red Lung-infected vampires feeding on unwary humans. One night, Allie is attacked by a pack of rabids, saved by an unlikely hero…and turned vampire.

Uncomfortable in her undead skin, Allie falls in with a ragtag crew of humans seeking a cure, or cures: for Rabidism and for Vampirism. She’s passing for human…for now. But the hunger is growing and will not be denied. Not for friendship—not even for love.

Expected publication: April 24th 2012 by Harlequin Teen
Why: This is all for you Julie Kagawa fans. Personally i have not read any of her books even though i have wanted to for the longest of time. Heard awesome things about her. Hope to get my hands on her books at some point in my life.
For Darkness Shows the Stars

For Darkness Shows the Stars

by Diana Peterfreund

Generations ago, a genetic experiment gone wrong—the Reduction—decimated humanity, giving rise to a Luddite nobility who outlawed most technology.

Eighteen-year-old Luddite Elliot North has always known her place in this caste system. Four years ago Elliot refused to run away with her childhood sweetheart, the servant Kai, choosing duty to her family’s estate over love. But now the world has changed: a new class of Post-Reductionists is jumpstarting the wheel of progress and threatening Luddite control; Elliot’s estate is floundering; and she’s forced to rent land to the mysterious Cloud Fleet, a group of shipbuilders that includes renowned explorer Captain Malakai Wentforth—an almost unrecognizable Kai. And while Elliott wonders if this could be their second chance, Kai seems determined to show Elliot exactly what she gave up when she abandoned him.

But Elliot soon discovers her childhood friend carries a secret—-one that could change the society in which they live…or bring it to its knees. And again, she’s faced with a choice: cling to what she’s been raised to believe, or cast her lot with the only boy she’s ever loved, even if she has lost him forever.

Inspired by Jane Austen’s PERSUASION, FOR DARKNESS SHOWS THE STARS is a breathtaking romance about opening your mind to the future and your heart to the one person you know can break it.

Expected publication: June 12th 2012 by Balzer + Bray
Why: That has got to be the prettiest cover EVAA! Love Love Love it! Plus its a sort-of retelling which makes it all the more desirable!

Review: Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr (Wicked Lovely, #1)

Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely, #1)Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Honestly, this book has been on my shelf for years. My mother gifted Wicked Lovely to me on my birthday, and back then i did try and read it but, for some reason i never really got past the first five chapters. This wasn’t the case this time. I simply couldn’t put it down.

Melissa Marr has written a wonderfully inventive story. Her ability to keep a complicated story with several important characters clear to the reader is phenomenal. The relationship she creates between Aislinn and Seth is heartwarming, leading the reader to fall in love right along with them.

Some readers won’t take to Keenan. I didn’t either but after a while you realise that he’s doing it for his court and the natural order of things. He didn’t ask for an evil mother and he certainly didn’t ask for the curse that was put on him. In my opinion, Melissa, further in the book, tries to show Keenan under a more positive light by portraying him to be compassionate and truly apologetic about how all the past girls had to suffer because they weren’t the Summer Queen.

I liked that, in the end, love for Keenan or his love for the girl has nothing to do with who becomes Summer Queen. The bargain that Aislinn strikes is clever and benefits not only herself but others. I was very concerned that Seth (sigh) would lose to Keenan, who at the time was slowly becoming a pain with all his possessiveness and stubborn attitude. All in all, the book was a great read and i will definitely be buying Ink Exchange, the second book.
